Saturday, the Elks Lodge will be holding its seventh annual Charity Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show.
Located at the Crawfordsville Elks Lodge on State Road 32 East and co-hosted by the Ben Hur Car Club, the show raises money for charitable donations to Indiana University and Purdue University for cancer research.
The Elks Cancer Fund is a statewide effort that usually goes toward seed money for cancer research.
With help from the Elks, smaller projects are able to attract big money.
Last year, for example, Crawfordsville Elks had 89 car entries, resulting in $2,100 raised for charity.
This year, trophies will be given to the top 40 cars and trucks, the top five motorcycles, the People’s Choice and the Mayor’s Choice.
In addition to the car show, there will be music from the ‘50s and ‘60s, a WWII vehicle from Ropkey’s Armor Museum, indoor and outdoor food, a performance by the Banjo Nutz, raffles and door prizes.
As a patriotic organization, the Elks will end the show with a visit from the Defending Freedom Riders in honor of Blue Star Mothers and Prisoners of War. This portion is free to spectators and the general public.
A blood drive will also be set up for those wishing to help in non-monetary ways.
Carsten Lemkau of the Crawfordsville Elks would like to thank members of the Ben Hur Car Club for their help, and he hopes "everyone will come out and support this cause."
The entry fee is $10, and registration for the show will be between noon and 3 p.m. Saturday, after which judging will begin. The first 100 entries will receive Dash Plaques. Awards will be presented at approximately 4 p.m.
For more information, or to make a donation, contact Lemkau at 866-0935, or Louie Swenke at 866-7077.
