Being diagnosed with an asbestos related disease such as lung cancer or mesothelioma leaves a person feeling shocked and overwhelmed. But there is no need to feel alone.
Unfortunately, many people are diagnosed with mesothelioma and lung cancer every year. People with mesothelioma or lung cancer are in a position to provide support and encouragement to those who have been recently diagnosed with the same illnesses.
Joining a support group is one way of meeting people who have more experience in living with cancer. There are many different types of support groups. There are peer-to-peer support groups, support groups that offer counseling, support groups that offer financial assistance and support groups that offer transportation and lodging assistance. Many support groups allow family members of cancer patients to participate in the group's activities.
Joining a support group allows a cancer patient to remain abreast of the latest developments in treatment options, befriend other cancer patients and receive financial assistance. Some support groups offer their services to cancer patients free of charge. Here are some support groups: American Cancer Society, The Wellness Community, and Gilda's Club. Many other support groups exist and can be found by typing in "cancer support group" in an internet search engine.
